Meyer Sound
Meyer Sound Panther
Meyer Sound Laboratories are creators of high-quality, high-performance loudspeakers for large-scale indoor/outdoor venues such as premium stadiums and performance concert halls around the world. To design their all-new touring Line Array loudspeaker, Panther, Meyer Sound partnered once again with Anvil Studios.
Meyer Sound set out to create a best-in-category loudspeaker by first listening to their customers needs and pain points. High-performance, future-proofing, seamless integration, energy efficiency, weather proofing, light weight, compact and affordable were the key targets for innovation and improvement. The global pandemic added its own set of complications with 100% remote research and design development, supply chain management issues, and component shortages. We were able to leverage the success of their previous line array loudspeakers, and innovate across all product specifications even within an aggressive under-1-year development timeline.

Our objective was to create a new design vision appropriate for the brand and intended environments, yet also flexible enough to apply consistently across all future loudspeaker products going forward. Guiding principles like “Make a statement”, “Be BOLD”, “Go WILD”, and “Rock-n-Roll!” were uttered often during the design reviews. In other words, we had to imbue a black box (traditionally designed as visually quiet and out of sight) with striking, bold and iconic features.
With side rigging features for suspending an array of loudspeakers in the air dominating the sides, and cables, amplifier heat sinks, and connection interfaces dominating the rear face, our explorations and solution focused primarily on the front grill. Previous and competitive loudspeakers typically consist of a rectangular plywood box with a hexagonal speaker grill pattern spanning the front face.
As an industry-first feature, we showcase the brand’s accent color, a periwinkle blue, as vertical strips on either side of the grill. Aesthetically this helps visually differentiate Panther from the rest of the competition, but functionally these strips illuminate for showing the sound crew which specific loudspeaker they are addressing from the venue’s mixing board.
In order to create visual drama, the front is organized as a tryptic to display the individual bold elements. Drawing inspiration from acoustic interfering wave patterns, we embossed a centered, abstracted version of the Meyer Sound logo. Framing the sides are large angular features that visually emphasizes the focus on the central waves.
Lastly, the traditional hexagon grill is replaced with a more sophisticated staggered pill pattern. And the logo badge justified left and centered top-to-bottom for branding consistency across future Meyer Sound products.
