The Proteus System
The Proteus System reinvents strength training by combining patented hardware and software into a first-ever resistance trainer that measures strength in 3 dimensions. Creating equal amount of resistance in all directions, creates the sensation of moving through water. The low-impact exercise benefits users ranging from post-op rehab to peak performance athletes. Design objectives address an intuitive “light touch” user experience; zero instruction, zero set-up. Additional requirements include designing the outer housings as cost-effective to manufacture, durable to withstand public use, and non-intimidating aesthetics.
Our design team strove for aesthetics that balance strength and muscularity with feeling easy and approachable. We sculpted forms with crisp surfacing details to convey internal muscular strength. To reduce the visual mass, the robust outer enclosures needed to be minimal and efficient. Adopting a “shrink wrapped” philosophy, the compact, asymmetric shrouds cover only the mechanical components, exposing as much of the core structure as possible. And the torso and linear arm shrouds include translucent windows showcasing the mechanical movements within.
