PowerA asked us to design an On-Ear Headset for the Nintendo 3DS gamer that was foldable, lightweight, and compact. Our solution is meticulously crafted to seamlessly integrate with the design aesthetics of Nintendo's cutting-edge 3DS portable gaming console. Drawing inspiration from the 3DS's distinctive styling, the headset embraces a duo-toned color scheme that complements the gaming device, creating a harmonious visual experience. The design incorporates chamfers and subtle undercuts, enhancing its sleekness and ergonomic appeal, while also paying homage to the 3DS's design philosophy.
A key feature of the On-Ear Headset is the versatile User Control module, strategically placed either on one ear or within a pod on the cable. This module empowers users with convenient access to essential functions such as power on/off, overall volume adjustment, microphone to game audio balance control, and a mute button. The headset's foldable design ensures portability, allowing it to be conveniently stowed away when not in use. To facilitate comfort during extended gaming sessions, the design incorporates modular pads or cushions that can be customized on the head strap or around the ear for an optimized fit. Furthermore, the removable mic boom, thoughtfully designed to be stored within the accompanying carry case, provides both practicality and protection, ensuring ease of transportation without compromising on quality.
