Tokki Magnetic Mesh Band
Tokki brings thoughtful technology and sustainable design to your gifting moments. Inspired by Bojagi, a traditional Korean custom for wrapping gifts in fabric, Tokki Wraps provide an eco-friendly solution that can be reused, again and again. And the magically magnetic Tokki Band can turn any piece of fabric or paper into giftwrap. Each Band includes a pendant with a unique QR code for creating personalized, digital greetings.
Tokki partnered with Anvil Studios to define the user experience of the securing band and then design the band and pendant. The problem to solve was how to create a modern, high-tech, and dimensionally versatile strap for securing the corners. The strap had to allow for 2-3 different width dimensions and be easy to use with one hand. It also needed to be of jewelry-like aesthetics, with a quality of timelessness; it needed to be something of value that someone would want to keep for generations.
We worked closely with Tokki’s founder, Jane Park, as well as with fashion designer, Danial Hellman, to prototype dozens of iterations for fabric, ribbon, molded silicon, buttons, snaps, magnets, hooks, loops, etc... Each solution was tested against the design brief criteria. The selected design direction is inspired by an Apple watch band because using the Milanese magnetic mesh band provides infinite thickness range for securing the band around the fabric and the magnet itself just adds pure magic. What's more, the metal mesh feels more like jewelry and presents an elegant and refined solution.
